BIOGRAPHY:
I am a young artist based in Scotland.
My inspiration for my art varies from pop culture, to natural forms and perspective. The reason for this is that everyone views the world differently and everyone has a different outlook on life. I also believe that no matter how similar we are to another person, we are still different and unique in our own way. I think that what makes us all so unique is that we all have different likes and dislikes and we all have our reasons behind it, whether its a favourite colour or a favourite song. I love that that all it takes is to look at something a certain way to see something that another couldn't. Pop culture and music inspire me as well. This is because you can see/hear the passion and creativity within it. It could be the set design of your favourite movie, or the Choreography from your favourite music video. All of this has been created by someone with a true love and passion for their craft, and a lot of effort has been put into it.
My favourite contemporary artist is Olafur Eliasson, because his art is about perspective. He changes certain things or makes things that need to be looked at in a certain way to see the beauty of it. He once took pieces of the melting icebergs in the arctic and placed them in London and just watched them melt. everyone would walk by and take photos next to them, or touch the ice, but overtime they slowly melted. The reason he did this was to show people what global warming is doing up north and just how quick it takes for the ice to melt. his work has so much meaning and is very inspirational to me.
My favourite medium to work with would definitely have to be ink, fine-liners and markers. I enjoy working with them because there is no going back, once you've started, you're committed. I do enjoy working with coloured pencils too, but I will tend to put a marker base before I start. I have spent a lot of time studying the human body and structure, especially with faces. I hope that I can use what I've learned to improve my art and make something meaningful and worthwhile. I've also worked a lot from life, working with perspective and different lighting and textures, which I also hope to use to improve my art.
I am currently in my first year of college, studying UAL 3 contemporary art. I hope that this course could help me get into University. I also hope that this course can help me figure out what style of art I enjoy the most. I struggle with picking just one style because I just love making things. When I make things, it makes me feel better/happy, and I love experimenting with different mediums and materials, and seeing what I can think of and make.
Some exhibitions I have taking part in, and had my art shown are: ITS AL!!!VE; Beyond; and Label Print Making. These were all held in the space at the DCA. I also Helped with an exhibition at the REP for one of their shows' "Spring Awakening" where I had two of my paintings shown. The art created for the REP was to help promote "Spring Awakening", so I had to create art based on the themes shown in the play.
